To garden or not to garden…?

Okay so it’s already April and I haven’t started any seedlings or anything at all yet. I am not really sure I have the time to do a large garden this year, but I know I will really miss it if I don’t. Fortunately, we live far enough south that getting a late start will not hurt anything. Between boating and work and everything else I will be hard pressed to keep up with it all. The food from the garden comes in handy for sure, because all the excess I can or freeze. Yes, I share some with friends and family, but it is really for sustainability, so I keep most of it.

I also was supposed to start a chicken coop and raise some chickens this year. Building a coop is relatively easy and chickens are easy to raise. The eggs from my own chickens well definitely come in handy with a family. I feel like I am dropping the ball a little bit because I want to do other “fun” things this year, rather than concentrate on making our life more sustainable. I guess I will give it a few more days and then I will probably go ahead and start the garden. Food for the family is important and it doesn’t cost much to get seeds and throw some water on them every day.

Musical Neighbor

You have to understand that I don’t have a single musical bone in my body. I can’t carry tune, in fact my babies would cry when I would try and sing to them in an effort to comfort or soothe them into a nice slumber. NOT! They would cry and scream even louder, something I took to heart for a very long time and still throw in their face from time to time and we have a good laugh about. But it still a fact that I can’t sing.

I have never had any luck with any musical instrument that I have found myself attracted to or given access to. I took piano lessons for 2 1/2 years and still can’t read music or play even the simplest tune that many 2nd graders know by heart. I couldn’t even memorize chop sticks for goodness sakes!

So my neighbor was rattling on about his new microphone from the local guitar center atlanta that his wife had gave him for his birthday, last year, She round it at which he really didn’t have a birthday at all because he is a leap year baby and last year wasn’t a leap year. It seems that the years that he really doesn’t have a calendar birthday his wife really goes out of her way to make up for “inconvenience” of being a leap year baby, which I think is pretty cool of her. They are good people, don’t get me wrong. It is such a pleasure to have neighbors that are as nice as these people are it’s just not what I had planned for tomorrow night, but nothing that I can’t reschedule.

Knick Knacks and More!

Our house seems to have accumulated an overly large number of nick knacks. Many of these items are gifts that we have received over the years and others are ones we admittedly purchased for ourselves when the urge and need hit. No matter how they came, they are here in spades! Everywhere I look the shelves are full to the hilt with all manner of treasures. We have nearly everything one could think of.

The biggest problem we have with all of these things is the ability to dust them off. They seem to attract a great deal of dirt and grime and are in constant need of being cleaned. I’ll be glad when the time comes that we will be able to rid ourselves of some of these space taker uppers and free up our shelves!

We will have our selves one heck of a yard sale. Feelings will be hurt and relationships will be strained, but for goodness sake, it’s only stuff and you can’t take it all with you when you go. I still have stuff from when I was 12 and 13 that I can’t even image letting go of, but at some point it will, when the time is right.

Close To Us

Happy holidays! It seems like just yesterday that I was saying those words. My, how time flies. Halloween has come and gone, thanksgiving is just a week or so away, and before we know it, Christmas will be right around the corner.

For those of those of us are lucky enough to have family and friends close to us during this time of year. We are truly the blessed ones. For those of us not so lucky, may all of you also find peace within the world and yourselves.

A Celebration Or Two

One thing everyone knows about me is that I love to attend the Mardi Gras festival every year. It’s always a wild time and it’s as fun as anything I’ve ever done. Each time I go, I like to dress up. It’s half the fun of going. Luckily, this year I found a cool site that has the supplies I need to make my trip complete. They have a wide selection of items to choose from.

This year I plan to attend the festival again and will dress up as well. I purchased one of the Mardi Gras Masks that was available from the site. I think it looks great and I can’t wait to try it out. I’m sure I’ll be in the thick of the party and be the envy of all who see me.

Hopefully I will be able to use this mask again at another party that we sometimes dress up for. I can’t wait to use the laser party lights that I bought a few months ago. I haven’t held a “theme party” in a long time. I think I am long over due!
