Wolf Moon
January 29, 2010
Tonight marks the first full moon of the year 2010. Because it is the first full moon, it is also known as the wolf moon. This name dates back to American Indian culture and their belief that wolfs howl at moon because they are hungry. There is also an added bonus that comes with tonight’s bright moon.
When the moons orbit is closest to us, it is called perigee. When perigee and a full moon coincide, as they will tonight, the result is a brighter, bigger moon. This means that some features of the moons surface will be very visible. I hope that everyone will be able to take a few minutes to walk outside and check out this rare and awesome sight!
Cell Phone wars
January 20, 2010
The battle for supremacy between the major cell phone carriers continues today as all the major players announced price cuts for certain consumers. During the past week, Verizon, AT&T, and U.S. Cellular all have lowered their prices for their unlimited talk plans by about $30.00. While I am happy that the change has finally come, there is still a long way to go.
Some people may be happy to have a few extra dollars in their budget, but most people will see no cuts as none were announced for people with limited plans. Those who pay by the minute will have no relief either. The only thing I can say is at least it’s a start and maybe someday soon we will all pay less for our phones!
Football News
January 4, 2010
One thing that many people don’t know about me is that I am a rabid football fan. While the team I always root for (Washington Redskins) is not in the playoffs this year, I still enjoy watching the games. Tonight’s game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers was one of the best I ever saw. The two teams combined for a record setting 96 points.
The Cardinals were able to come out on top as they scored a touchdown in overtime with a great defensive play. Field goal kicker Rackers had just missed a would be game winning field goal minutes before. This game has sure got me excited about watching the rest of the playoffs!!
