Kentucky Derby

May 2, 2010

It was a wonderful running of the 136th Kentucky Derby. The track was a little muddy but the horses slogged through it all to provide a great race. The winner was a colt named Super Saver ridden by Calvin Borel. Borel is known for his propensity to ride the rail in his races. The strategy paid off for him this time.

The trainer name is Todd Pletcher. He owns about 175 horses and has hundreds of employees. This was his first derby win though he has entered horses in 24 races. He also stated that he believes in his horse’s ability to win the Triple Crown. That is a difficult feat and we’ll have to wait and see on that. I do wish him luck!!

Wolf Moon

January 29, 2010

Tonight marks the first full moon of the year 2010. Because it is the first full moon, it is also known as the wolf moon. This name dates back to American Indian culture and their belief that wolfs howl at moon because they are hungry. There is also an added bonus that comes with tonight’s bright moon.

When the moons orbit is closest to us, it is called perigee. When perigee and a full moon coincide, as they will tonight, the result is a brighter, bigger moon. This means that some features of the moons surface will be very visible. I hope that everyone will be able to take a few minutes to walk outside and check out this rare and awesome sight!

Football News

January 4, 2010

One thing that many people don’t know about me is that I am a rabid football fan. While the team I always root for (Washington Redskins) is not in the playoffs this year, I still enjoy watching the games. Tonight’s game between the Arizona Cardinals and the Green Bay Packers was one of the best I ever saw. The two teams combined for a record setting 96 points.

The Cardinals were able to come out on top as they scored a touchdown in overtime with a great defensive play. Field goal kicker Rackers had just missed a would be game winning field goal minutes before. This game has sure got me excited about watching the rest of the playoffs!!

Wrapping presents

December 20, 2009

One thing that I don’t mind doing is wrapping presents. Some people don’t like to do it, but I don’t mind at all. It’s no problem for me to get out all the paper and tape and go to town. I have a system that really works and I can wrap a lot of presents in a very short time. I even like to put ribbons on mine to add that extra touch.

This year I found some paper at the mall that I really liked. I bought enough to wrap all my presents and am very satisfied with it. It brings me great joy to wrap the boxes knowing that someone will be happy with the gift found inside. The gifts look great under the tree and are awaiting Christmas day!
