Bottle or Tap
December 1, 2009
I came across an interesting article today that described some of the differences of bottled water versus tap water. I had always thought that bottled water would be cleaner and safer than tap. Little did I know that is not always the case? It turns out that tap water is regulated much more thoroughly than bottled. The EPA has strict guidelines for tap water and almost no guidelines for bottled. I would hope that everyone would check out the safety of their water by contacting one of the many agencies that give information about your water. Safety should always be a first consideration.
Smoking and Women
October 26, 2009
It seems that there is a new study out that predicts that women are more susceptible to cigarette smoke than men. A study by the Swiss indicates that women are younger when they get lung cancer, even if they have smoked less than men. There are other studies that show that women die in greater numbers than men from smoking.
Second hand smoke also plays a role in people who get cancer. I think it is important that if you smoke, at least have the courtesy to go outside and away from everyone else. Don’t forget that lung cancer is the leading cause of death for all people in the U.S.
The Appendix
August 30, 2009
Ever since I was a young child, I’ve always heard that the appendix was a useless organ. I remember when I had my own taken out at the hospital. I woke up feeling mighty weird. As far as I know, I haven’t missed it any, but new information has come to light suggesting that this organ may have a role to play.
Scientists have been studying the organ and think that it may play a role in making white blood cells. It may also store good bacteria until it is needed by the body. I think it’s kind of funny that now that I don’t have an appendix, I may end up needing it. That’s just my luck!
No more of that
July 27, 2009
Hey everyone! I just wanted to write a short post on a sensitive subject. I know it can be embarrassing, but it happens from time to time. I’m talking about what happens when you get a bed bug . This site I found is pretty neat and has a lot of good information that can help anyone who finds themselves in this situation. I hope you find it useful!
