Batman

February 25, 2010

There is a new record in the comic book realm. There is a 1939 comic book featuring a new character named Batman that sold at auction for more than $1 million dollars. The book is called Detective Comics and is No. 27 published in May, 1939. The deal beats a record set just the other day for the highest amount paid for a comic book.

Both parties in the deal wish to remain anonymous and there is some speculation as to who was involved. The sale beat a one million dollar price for a 1938 Superman Action Comics No. 1 which was sold earlier this week.

The New Budget

February 3, 2010

President Barack Obama has announced his plans for a new budget for 2010. The budget includes money for the unemployed, tax breaks for businesses, and energy and infrastructure projects. The president said it was important to try to get the nations economy going again and that’s why the deficit will rise once again.

People who oppose the plan point to the fact that the deficit will rise to a new record level. The deficit will be around $1.56 trillion dollars for the fiscal year. The administration has announced plans to institute a three year freeze for government spending on non-military items. I hope the president will be able to get things under control soon!

Cell Phone wars

January 20, 2010

The battle for supremacy between the major cell phone carriers continues today as all the major players announced price cuts for certain consumers. During the past week, Verizon, AT&T, and U.S. Cellular all have lowered their prices for their unlimited talk plans by about $30.00. While I am happy that the change has finally come, there is still a long way to go.

Some people may be happy to have a few extra dollars in their budget, but most people will see no cuts as none were announced for people with limited plans. Those who pay by the minute will have no relief either. The only thing I can say is at least it’s a start and maybe someday soon we will all pay less for our phones!

Thanks Mr. King

December 13, 2009

The well-known book author Stephen King has been known to be generous from time to time. This time he has agreed to donate money towards a cause that will allow members of the Maine Army National Guard to return to Maine for the holidays. King lives in Bangor with his wife Tabitha and the two are donating $12.999 for buses to bring the troops home from their camp in Indiana. I am certainly impressed by this simple act of kindness and thank the King’s for their charity.
